Basketball Highlights 2017/2018

Senior Boys

The guys a had a solid 19-10 win/loss record winning 3 GOLD medals in tournament play!  At the Sturgeon Tournament they beat Spruce Grove in the final, at Lloydminister they beat the hosts in the final and when defending their home turf at the Facey Tournament it was Red Deer's Hunting Hills taking the beat down!  They also took bronze at the Salisbury Tournament with a dominating 67-34 thumping of Salisbury!  Also had a good showing at the tough Magrath event.

The Falcons finished in 6th place in Metro Edmonton's Division 1, the toughest conference in the province!  It should be mentioned that Facey is the only local school playing in this top Conference!  The Falcons nearly pulled an upset in the quarterfinal losing 62-58 to Ross Shep, Metro's eventual runner up.  Our Falcons also gave the Metro & Provincial Champs from Ainlay the closest game they had during the Metro round robin!

Graduating players Alex Jap & Andrew Hogg have signed to attend and play at MacEwan University & Augustana University next year.  Both were also selected to play in the All Star Showcase Game featuring Edmonton's top 24 players!

Senior Girls

Our girls program welcomed Kaitie Unger (Beard) back to the program as Head Coach this season!  Kaitie played at Facey and went on to a very successful post secondary career in basketball!  Also her assistants were former Falcons & CIS players Nakita Newman & Meagan Carr.

The girls started the season by re-qualifying for Edmonton Metro's Division 1!  Then defeated Ardrossan & ABJ on route to winning Silver at the Salisbury Tournament.  They beat Austin O'Brien & Lloydminister's Holy Rosary on their way to winning Silver at the Sturgeon Tourney & posted wins over O'Leary and North Peace winning Silver at Scona.  They were 4th at their own event but went on to strike GOLD at the Lloydminister Tournament trouncing Lillian Osborne 98-41 in the final!

Some injuries and a couple close losses in league play bumped them out of the playoff picture but they always showed up to give the top teams all they could handle!

Grade 11 Amberley Spencer was selected to play in the Edmonton All Star Showcase Game that features the cities top 24 players!

Junior Boys

The boys played in Edmonton Metro's Division 1, the only local school to play in this top Conference!  They struggled to find many wins in league but gave several of the top teams tight hard fought games.  Tournament play was met with mixed results with a 4th place finish at Salisbury & a consolation title at ME Lazerte.

Junior Girls

The girls played a spirited brand of basketball this year and they were rewarded with a 7th place finish and a playoff berth!  The girls were 4th at the ME Lazerte Tournament and at their own Tournament as well.  The girls recorded their signature win of the season in the opening round of the Salisbury Tournament.  Matched against Scona our Falcons put together a brilliant comeback to post a 52-50 win!  The significance of this huge win is that Scona went on to win the Metro Division 1 Championship!
